Day 4: Unlock Close Call & Advanced Scanning Features
Hey there!
We've covered a lot this week – Favorites Lists, trunking systems, and antenna optimization. Today, I want to show you one of the SDS100's most powerful features that many users overlook.
Quick Tip #4: Close Call Mode – Your Secret Weapon
Close Call is like having a sixth sense for nearby radio activity. It instantly detects and tunes to strong local signals, even if they're not programmed into your scanner.
How to Use Close Call:
Press and hold the "Function" button
Press "9" to enter Close Call mode
The scanner will now alert you to ANY nearby transmission
When it finds something, press "Hold" to listen
Press "E" to add it to your Favorites List
When Close Call Shines: • At accidents or emergencies (picks up on-scene frequencies) • Special events (tactical channels, event security) • Finding "talkaround" or simplex frequencies used by agencies • Discovering new frequencies in your area
Pro Settings:
In the Close Call settings menu, you can adjust: • DND (Do Not Disturb) ranges to ignore frequencies • Alert tones and hold times • Band limits (VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz)
Advanced Tip: Set Close Call to "Priority" mode. Your scanner will check for Close Call hits while still scanning your Favorites Lists. It's the best of both worlds!
Many subscribers tell me Close Call helped them discover channels they never knew existed in their area.
That wraps up your welcome series! I'll continue sending you weekly tips, frequency updates, and insider techniques to help you get the most from your SDS100.
Happy scanning!
cheers, boy and a scanner
